《 RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR SANG SHIN 》

Sang Yun Shin has announced his plan to retire as BGAV Asian Church Coordinator on December 31, 2024, after 23 years of service. Since 2001, Sang’s ministry with BGAV has focused on empowering cross cultural church planters and helping plant churches to reach underserved people groups in Virginia and internationally.

Whereas, prior to serving as Asian Church Coordinator, Sang served as the Director of V3 People Group Church Planting, helping plant more than 120 churches throughout Virginia as well as in Korea and served as Korean Ministries Specialist, BGAV. In 2008, Sang was appointed by BGAV/NAMB as a Church Planting Missionary.

Whereas, Sang planted a church while he was at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He also planted a church in Shady Grove, Maryland which drew hundreds of Korean immigrants in the area, and grew from 20 to 400 in attendance, baptizing over 100, and sending over 12 to seminary.

Whereas, in addition to his church plants, his pastoral service included ministry as assistant pastor and pastor of churches in Texas and associate pastor at First Baptist Church, Annandale and senior pastor at Shady Grove Korean Baptist Church, Annandale. He was ordained to the ministry by Highland Park Baptist Church, Texarkana, Texas.

Whereas, Sang holds the Doctor of Ministry (Church Planting), Fuller Theological Seminary; the Master of Divinity, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; the Master of Science and Ph.D. Study, University of Calgary, Canada; and the Bachelor of Arts, George Mason University, Fairfax.

Whereas, Sang and his wife, Esther, who serves as Missions Strategist, Multicultural, on the staff of WMUV, reside in Dulles, Virginia. They have one adult son and two daughters, Daniel (serving in the US Army), Grace (husband Eric), and Sophia (husband Jake), and one grandson, Atlas.

Therefore, be it resolved that we, the elected members of the Virginia Baptist Executive Board meeting on September 5, 2024, offer our appreciation for the life and work of Sang Shin, and we vow to support Sang and his wife Esther with our prayers as they move into a new chapter of life and ministry.

Be it further resolved, that we ask the messengers of the Annual Meeting of the Baptist General Association of Virginia meeting in Alexandria, VA on November 12, 2024, to offer our gratitude for the ministry of Sang Shin.
